What Is Apologetics?
The word apologetics comes from the Greek word, apologia. Apologia is a legal term which means defense. Apologetics is the branch of Christian theology concerned with defending the claims of Christianity.
Why should I be concerned with apologetics?
Many Christians feel this way. I believe there are three key reasons why every Christian should become knowledgeable in the area of apologetics, and be willing to engage others:
1. God commands us to defend the faith. 1Peter 3:15 says this: ""But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,".
2. When we discover why we believe what we do, and are able to articulate this to others, then our own faith is strengthened.
3. We are all commissioned to make disciples (Mt. 28:18-20). Although evangelism is a scary word to most Christians, this can take many forms. Most of us are not called to stand on a street corner, and evangelize. However, we can make a huge impact by being ready, willing, and able to engage others in casual conversation about our faith.
I don't feel qualified to argue my beliefs with others. In fact, there is a lot about the Bible that I don't understand.
I think this is the main reason for people not engaging others about issues of faith. The good news is that when you get right down to it, there are only a handful of key issues that people justify as a reason to reject Christianity. Once you learn what these issues are, you can develop an articulate and reasoned response to them. Once you have done that, you can feel confident about engaging others about beliefs; either yours or theirs.

Apologetics 101: The Syllabus
Now that we have answered a few basic questions about the importance of apologetics, and the reasons we are to be involved, let's talk about the course material.
You will notice on the menu tabs for this site a tab labeled "Reasons". My hope is that as this site is updated weekly, you will eventually have all the tools and information you need to be a responsible, informed, and effective ambassador for Christ. Some of the information you will find more relevant to your current situation than others. However, unless you have a specific topic you need immediate information on, you will get the most from this material by going in the order it is presented. Regardless of your preference however, it is highly recommended that everyone begin with the "Bible" course. Everyone should be well versed in this material, as it is the well that we draw all of our conclusions from. One more thing. Some people hate to read. I get that. If this is you, then you will be glad to know that the material found on this site is what I discuss on my weekly radio show, "Hit Me With The Truth". If you miss the live broadcasts, then you can go back and listen to the shows that I have archived under the "Broadcast" tab.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this site, and may
God bless your efforts to become an informed ambassador for Jesus Christ.
